Nova Scotia Demand: Express Entry

Express Entry is the federal government’s immigration system to nominate the highly skilled foreign individuals for Nova Scotia Nominee Program. This stream recognises highly- skilled candidates with relevant education and qualifications. To fulfil the minimum eligibility criteria, the candidates need to create a profile on Express Entry Immigration selection system with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada's (IRCC).

Nova Scotia Experience: Express Entry

This particular category is a pathway to individuals who have worked for Nova Scotia employer for at least a year and require a permanent residence to settle and work in the province. The candidates can enter the pool through Federal Skilled Worker, Federal Skilled Trades and Canadian Experience Class.

Nova Scotia Labour Market Priorities

Candidates who can meet the specific labour market needs are eligible to apply for NSNP. The occupations under this stream can change in each invitation round. It is a pathway to Canada’s permanent residence for general practitioners, family physicians and specialist physicians. Candidates can enter the Express Entry pool under the two economic immigration programs: Federal Skilled Worker and Canadian Experience Class.

Nova Scotia Labour Market Priorities for Physicians

Under this stream, candidates having an approved job offer in Nova Scotia as general practitioner and family physician or a specialist physician can apply for NSNP. They need to have an approved offer letter from Nova Scotia Health Authority or Izaak Walton Killam (IWK) Health Centre in Halifax in order to enter the Express Entry pool. Their profile will be pulled under any one the two economic immigration programs: Federal Skilled Worker and Canadian Experience Class.

Skilled Worker Stream

This stream targets individuals who are workers in skilled, semi- skilled and low- skilled occupations. They need to have an official job offer from the employer in Nova Scotia in order to apply for the NSNP. Nova Scotia usually hires the workers or international graduates whose skills are limited in the province and can fit in to the requirements. It is not linked with Express Entry System and workers can apply for Canadian Permanent Residence even if they are not eligible for the Express Entry pool.

Occupation in Demand Stream

The stream is a three- year pilot for individuals who have an eligible job offer in the relevant intermediate- skilled occupation. The occupations are subject to change as per the market needs of the province. The candidates must acquire a permanent job offer from Nova Scotia employer under the Canada’s National Occupational Classification (NOC):

  • NOC 3413 — Nurses’ aides, orderlies and patient service associates
  • NOC 7511 — Transport truck drivers

Entrepreneur Stream

Individuals who have a business idea to implement or planning to buy an existing business in Nova Scotia can apply for a permanent residence in Canada. It targets experienced businessmen and senior business managers who can participate in managing day- to- day company operations. They need to operate the business on a valid work permit for one year before being nominated for permanent residence.

International Graduate Entrepreneur Stream

Under this stream, candidates who have completed at least two years of full- time study from an eligible Nova Scotia university or Nova Scotia Community College can apply for NSNP. Additionally, candidates who have established and run their business for one continuous year in Nova Scotia can apply under this stream for permanent residence in Canada.

Physician Stream

Candidates who are internationally trained general practitioners, family physicians and specialist physicians can apply for NSNP. They need to have an official job offer from recognised healthcare authorities of Nova Scotia.
